saw the founding of Hawick Boys Brigade Pipe band by Pipe Major Bob Short, the band catering for boys from the 6 companies comprising the Hawick Battalion of BBs. The band was famous throughout Great Britain and Europe, visiting countries like France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, to mention but a few. |
In this year it was decided by members who were considered to be too old to remain in the Boys Brigade Pipe Band, that it was time to form an adult pipe band to enable ex members of the BBs and future recruits to continue their involvement in pipe bands, and this led to the establishment of the Hawick Pipe Band. |
Since then the band has enjoyed much success both at home and abroad with visits to places like Mexico, The Bahamas, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan, among many others. |
The band is also going ahead with the introduction of a novice juvenile band which should be up and running by the year 2002. The early signs are that things are going really well, with most of the young chanter players already through most of their exercises. See the band's News page for more information. |
