My favourite trips have been  to Dublin with Trades RFC, and to Trinidad with the Border Reivers.

My most lasting memory is of marching down Rothesay High Street after winning the competition there, and seeing Doddy Short's underpants start to creep down his legs after the elastic snapped.   Although they were round his ankles he didn't even blink, and he marched on like the true professional that he is.

My name is Cammy Renwick. I'm married to Dawn.  I'm a (highly skilled) frameworker with Barrie Knitwear, and I've been a piper with the band for 20-odd years now.

  • Drummers constantly squabbling

  • Mumping Highland Dancers

  • Dogs that shag your leg

My specialty is busking at the Carter Bar.

I like to think of myself as a hard working member of the Pipe Band.   At times I can be a little quiet and shy (Oh yeah).   I am not a cheeky person and I don't think much of people who take the pish out of others.   Also I'm not a trip hunter like Jonesey or a crap player like Frank Furterfingers.

My name is Roddy McIntyre.  A Sub Officer in an Operational Fire Station with Lothian & Borders Fire Brigade, I am married to Jill and I have two children: Callum  and Chloe .   I have been playing the pipes 28 years in all, and have been with the band 8 years.

My speciality is flamboyant blooters.

After reading this, you could be forgiven for thinking, "What a lazy git", and you would be absolutely correct.

My name is Derek McGlone.  I'm married to Anne and I work for Electronics firm Plexus as a SMT operator . I started learning the chanter from the age of ten with the Hawick Royal British Legion, I then joined the Hawick pipe band. After a lengthy absence  I rejoined the band and I haven't looked back since.

  • Watching poor Boff get the blame for all the blooters.

  • Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts

Dislikes

  • Grade 1 band members who look down their noses at you.

  • Hearing some of our band members liken our pipe Major to that wee banjo player in the film deliverance

  • Getting the blame for Archies blooters

  • Bairns that don't practise

I like to think of myself as a person who has a lot of patience and never gets ratty with the P/M on band trips, furthermore I wish some of our band members would stop ridiculing our young piper from Germany Herr Furterfingers, Frank is his first name, as he is trying his best so lay off boys .One of my favourite trips with band was the one to China with Cammy Ming and Dick. I also very much enjoyed the trips away with the Stow band to Spain. I'll finish by wishing Hawick Pipe Band all the best for the forthcoming competition season in the hoping that we'll get some decent results.

My name is Alan Smith aka Julio Inglesias. I live with Lorraine and I work for Barrie knitwear as a head knitter. "Kid's", I probably have them all over Europe that I don't know of, I started learning the chanter from the age of ten with the Hawick boys brigade I then joined the Hawick pipe band. After a while, I left Hawick to join the likes of Dysart and Dundonald and then Polkemmet Newton Grange (that's when they were gye guid)

There is something else I would like to add. I had kidded Jonesey on for about 20 years that I had bonked that Austrian lassie in a park in Linz while he waited for me in the freezin cauld. Not so long ago I told him the truth that I hadn't;   the truth of the matter is I didn't have a clue what to do with her. Jonesey was devastated that I had taken so long to tell him.

My name is Colin Roderick Short.  I'm married to Helen. I have four children if you can call them that now, Karen, Kenneth, Julie and Allister. I'm a retired knitwear businessman. I've been in the pipe band since it's beginning back in nineteen canteen.

I've not much else to say, as the boys in the band will tell you I'm a man of very few words.

I'm one of the most traveled pipers in the band having played at festivals and promotions throughout Europe, plus Mexico, The Bahamas, Middle East, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. I'm now enjoying a new lease of life in retirement after successful double hip replacement surgery in the 1990s.
